No Need to Worry About Yesterday or Tomorrow

There is No Need to Worry About Yesterday or Tomorrow

Mata Amritanandamayi (the name means loving mother), one of my great masters in India who we know affectionately as Amma, has the power to embrace a person and rid them of everything they carry unnecessarily. This loving guru has been known to embrace up to 50,000 people in turn, without resting, moving from her spot, going to the toilet or eating because she is in a state of Samadhi: the absorption of the mind in reality or truth, which is love.

Amma granted me an audience during which she spoke wisely about the importance of conscious, positive and present thought. She said that there are two days of the week when there is absolutely no sense in worrying, and which we can maintain free of any fear, precaution, anxiety or resentment. Yesterday is one of those days: although we may have lived it in suffering, sadness, confusion, failure or perhaps in joy and triumph, even with all the desire and power in the world we can never get it back. Yesterday is in the past, and the past already passed. Not even your smallest act of violence or love can be changed, nor any feeling of rage expressed in hurtful words or hostile actions.

The other day about which we should not worry is tomorrow, because it is totally out of our control. You cannot control things outside yourself and less still manipulate them, because although you might wish that the beautiful sun rise twice every day, however early you get up it will only rise once, and the only thing that you can do is enjoy it.
